*****PRESS RELEASE*****ALBUM CAZZAROLA! WITH CROCODILE!!!!!********************************************* ‘CAZZAROLA! (cd1)’, NORMAN NAWROCKI’S NEWEST CD AN ITALIAN-THEMED SOUNDTRACK Veteran Montreal recording artist Norman Nawrocki has released his newest album, CAZZAROLA! (cd 1), the musical soundtrack for his new novel of the same name (CAZZAROLA! Anarchy, Romani, Love, Italy, PM Press, Oakland 2013). The hauntingly beautiful, Italian flavored album was produced in collaboration with 25 musicians from Italy and Montreal. It contains 16 tracks in English, Italian and Romani inspired by or related to his novel. It’s his 24th album since 1986. (See Discography.) CAZZAROLA! (cd 2), with 14 other tracks will be released online later in December, 2013. The 55 minutes of music on CAZZAROLA! (cd 1) ranges from traditional Italian folk to original contemporary Italian-themed compositions that are folkloric, ambient, electro-acoustic and somewhat ‘indie’ and ‘world beat.’ Waltzes, folk dances, love ballads, prisoner songs and soundscapes are arranged chronologically following the story in the book, spanning 130 years of Italian history (1880 to today). Among Nawrocki’s collaborators on the album are Italian bands like DisCanto, an Abruzzo folkloric ensemble he met in Italy while doing field research for the album, and Panachrome, a Montreal jazz group. Three of his Montreal bands– Crocodile, DaZoque!, and SANN – also contributed tracks, as did an assortment of other local and Italian musicians. For the first time Nawrocki not only plays violin, but actually sings on a few tracks. ‘I am not a singer and would never pretend to call myself one,’ he insists, ‘but, some songs required a singer, so I grabbed the mic.’ The album was co-produced with legendary Montreal sound engineer, David Sturton (Jean LeLoup, Bran Van 3000, etc.). CAZZAROLA! (cd 1), released by Les Pages Noires (Montreal), is available on Nawrocki’s cross-Canada tour, Oct 24 to December 3, 2013 (See Tour Itinerary), or from PM Press. Nawrocki will perform with Crocodile and Panachrome at his Montreal launch, Nov 15th. Nawrockis last solo release was the bittersweet, humourous and poignant ‘Letters from Poland/Lettres de Pologne (LPN, 2006).
