PRESS RELEASE: Chamber to Recognize Work of Volunteers Chairman of the Board for the Laredo Chamber of Commerce Javier S. Moctezuma will officially hand over the reins of the organization to his successor, David T. Newman, at a ceremony to be held on Thursday, September 25, 2014. As is customary, the outgoing chairman will preside over the luncheon meet and deliver a state of the Chamber report as one of his final official acts. Moctezuma, in addition, will present awards and recognitions to the many volunteers who assisted in carrying forth his program of work during the past year. Annually, the Laredo Chamber of Commerce hosts a gala event at the end of its fiscal year to recognize volunteers. This years event will be held in the Colonnade Ballroom of the Laredo Country Club starting at 11:30 am. States Moctezuma on a positive note, The Chamber depends on the support of its volunteers for its many activities and projects throughout the year. They truly are the backbone of the organization and, honestly, theyre the reason for the Chambers success over the last 99 years. Its only proper that we take time to recognize them. The Chamber Awards ceremony will be held in place of the regularly scheduled Board of Directors meeting. As is traditional, the program will also serve to introduce the incoming Chairman of the Board and the new slate of officers. Heading the FY 2014-2015 team will be Chairman of the Board David T. Newman of B.P. Newman Investment Co. Other members of the 2014-2015 Executive Committee are: Mario Pena (International Bank of Commerce), Chairman Elect; Adelaido Lalo Uribe (Keystone Financial Group), Treasurer; Cassandra Wheeler (TAMIU), Susana Melendez-Valencia (BBVA-Compass Bank), John Ulbricht (Laredo Medical Center), Danielle D. Marasco (McDonalds Restaurants), and Greg Morgensen (Family Nissan) Council Chairs; Javier S. Moctezuma, Past Chairman; and Miguel A. Conchas, President/CEO. Traditionally, following the recognition of volunteers, the outgoing chairman calls on the new chairman and presents him/her with the gavel. The new chairman then closes the meeting as his/her first official action of the new year. (cont.) Following is the list of recognitions and awards to be presented by Chairman Javier S. Moctezuma: • o Jim Parish Media Award - to be presented to Bill Green of the Laredo Morning Times, for unfailing support to the mission of the Laredo Chamber and its efforts to promote economic development for the Laredo/Webb County area. • o Un Poquito Más Award -- Presented to Alfredo Freddy Gutierrez, of Falcon International Bank, for untiring dedication to the Chamber mission. Mr. Gutierrez is being recognized in particular for his willingness to step up at all times and deliver a little extra effort to ensure success for Chamber projects. • o Committee Chairperson of the Year Award - Presented to Rossy Chase, of BBVA Compass Bank, whose role as chairman of the Small BusinessCommittee contributed to the success of the 2014 Distinguished Business Awards. • o Volunteer of the Year Award - Presented to Elizabeth Liz Saldivar,of Manpower, for dedication and commitment to the Chamber mission. Ms. Saldivar is being recognized in particular for her involvement in the Bienvenidos Committee and the Small Business Committee. • o Spirit of Laredo Award - Presented to Lauren Guzman in recognition of her achievement in capturing the title of Miss Texas-USA and her subsequent work as ambassador of goodwill carrying forth a positive image of this community. • o Order of Los Dos Laredos Award - Presented to the Jorge Verduzco, of International Bank of Commerce,in recognition of his dedication to the development of the Laredo/Webb area particularly through his labor in the promotion of the I-69 corridor. • o Recognition in Honor of Max Mandel - Presented to Robert Harris, Commander for the South Texas Campaign of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, for constantly advancing a positive image of the Laredo community in his interaction with state, federal and international agencies. In addition, volunteers who have served as members of the Board and are completing their respective term will also be recognized. Tickets to the 2014 Awards Ceremony and luncheon are $35 per person.
