PRESS RELEASE DELAYED PAYMENT OF OVERTIME FOR ELECTION STAFF The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) regrettably acknowledges the delay in the payment of overtime to many of the thirty-two thousand (32 000) election officers who were engaged in the 2014 general elections. The delay is a result of the method of payment owing to the mandatory financial procedures regarding payment of overtime accumulated. Nonetheless, the IEC has already prepared almost all adjustment vouchers for affected Ministries and Departments who submitted claims for their employees. Prompt facilitation on preparation of the adjustment vouchers by the IEC depended on timeous submission of claims by respective ministries and departments. Affected ministries and departments commit such casualty returns with the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning for inclusion of such overtime in everyone’s monthly salary. The IEC wishes to apologise to everyone affected and assure them that they will receive their dues. Affected employees are encouraged to enquire with their ministries’ or departments’ relevant unit on the progress of preparation of their casualty returns.
