PRESS RELEASE: Home Ministry/Govt is irresponsible for pushing - TopicsExpress

PRESS RELEASE: Home Ministry/Govt is irresponsible for pushing stateless problem to the incompetent Special Implementation Task Force (SITF) I refer to the statement on 13 July 2014 by MIC deputy president Dr S Subramaniam calling upon stateless Indians to register with the Special Impementation Task Force ( SITF). It is shocking and irresponsible for Subramaniam to send stateless Indians to the SITF; the SITF is proven to have failed miserably in resolving the woes of stateless Indians. SITF was set up in June 2010 as a political fig-leaf and pretence by PM Najib Razak in order to grab Indian votes in GE-13. Since then SITF has had no impact in ending the problem of statelessness. Hundreds of thousands Indian Malaysians continue to be deprived of identification papers and are condemned to a legal limbo. They are denied access to jobs, education, healthcare and government aid. Their children are also consequently denied blue MyKads and condemned to a life of suffering and poverty in the fringes of our society. A large number of Chinese Malaysians and East Malaysians also face the same problem. Further, it is the legal and statutory duty of the National Registration Department(NRD) under Home Minister Zahid Hamidi to ensure all Malaysians are issued proper identification documents. The NRD has the funds and resources to tackle the problem. Why is the BN government outsourcing this crucial task to a failed and incapable body such as the SITF? The indifference of Najib, Zahid Hamidi and the BN leadership to stateless Malaysians is the great scandal and tragedy of modern Malaysia. We call upon Najib Razak and the BN government to urgently resolve this longstanding crisis and end the misery of stateless Malaysians.
