Local firemen and police department personnel assisted Special Olympics Arkansas with a fundraiser Thursday October 2nd and Friday October 3rd during the afternoon in front of the Mountain View Wal-Mart. Police Chief Bobby Day, with department personnel Patrolman.Rick Crome, Patrolman Cody Lee, Patrolman Eric Moore, Patrolman Russell Gilbert, Sergeant Chris Marshall and Leiutenant Jeremy Beaudin gave their time both days to assist in the fundraising efforts. Fire department personnel included FF Danny Simmons, FF Keith Jessen, FF Bobby Day, FF Rick Crome, FF Russell Gilbert & Assistant Chief Jeremy Beaudin and Sgt. Ricky Shuttleworth volunteered alongside the police department. A big thank you because the event would not have been possible without the willingness of Wal-Mart to allow the departments to set up and ask for donations in front of the store. Special Olympics field rep Theresa Book was working with the crew and complimented how nice it was to see the two departments willing to come together and work for such a special cause. Fire Helmets, Coloring Books and both Police and Fire badges were handed out to the public. Boots and Badges is one of the fundraising efforts set by the Law Enforcement Torch Run Movement. The generosity of the customers who came through the doors was about $3,697.22 for the two days. This money will be used to assist Special Olympics Arkansas and Area 16 which is Stone, Independence and Izard counties. The money will be used on the local level to help pay for expenses at facilities which events are held, purchase medals for events the athletes participate in and equipment needs. November 5-7th are the dates for the bowling competition set at Hollywood Lanes in Batesville. The public is invited to come out and watch the athletes and volunteer.
