PRESS RELEASE Sheriff Sam Craft of the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that on May 17th, 2014, Deputies with the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office were called out to a residence on a complaint of suspicious activity. Deputies knocked on the door announcing their presence. Oviedo “Ty” Gomez, age 37, of Leesville, Louisiana answered the door and allowed the deputies into the residence, once inside the residence deputies observed two females, Brittany Faizi, age 26, of Roanoke, Va, and Cassandra Chapman, age 22, of Leesville, La. Mr Gomez was asked if there were any other individuals in the residence and he stated no. While speaking with the subject Deputies heard noise from upstairs at which point they asked again if anyone else was in the residence and Mr Gomez acknowledged that his friend was upstairs. Deputies then commanded the individual, who was later identified as Willie Benson Jr, age 31, of Deridder, Louisiana, to come down stairs at which time the subject did comply. Deputies then heard yet another sound of movement from down the hall and found a subject that was later identified as Jason Smith, age 36, of Leesville, LA, in the bathroom. Deputies then asked Gomez for consent to search at which time he gave them consent at which point he took deputies to a cardboard box located above the kitchen sink where Deputies found Hydrocodone pills. During the course of the rest of the search Deputies found pocket scales, a clear zip lock bag which contained methamphetamine, and a glass pipe. All subjects were then detained and transported to the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office where they were charged and arrested. While being booked in, Deputies in the Vernon Parish Jail discovered more narcotics on Brittany Faize and Jason Smith. Oviedo “Ty” Gomez was charged with Possession of Schedule III with Intent and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Bond was set at $5,000. Willie Benson Jr was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Bond was set at $6,000. Subject bonded out on May 19th, 2014. Cassandra Chapman was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Bond was set at $6,000. Brittany Faizi was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Schedule III, and Introduction of Contraband. Bond was set at $9,500. Jason A Smith was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Marijuana, and Introduction of Contraband. Bond was set at $7,500. Subject bonded out on May 19th, 2014.
