Sc. (Honors) Program in PHN. All courses in this program are taught within a research- driven, student-centered framework. Students have access to excellent facilities and laboratories (including several other major laboratories operated under different Departments of School of Science in PAU. (Honors) degree in PHN can lead the students to post- graduate studies and research careers in universities, research institutes, hospitals, industries, and government laboratories. Major focus of the Department of PHN is to prepare its undergraduate students to: 1. Identify and assess diet-related health problems-of both under- nutrition and over-nutrition among different socio-income groups in Bangladesh; 2. Identify the social, cultural, economic, environmental, and institutional factors that contribute to the risk of under-nutrition and over- nutrition among populations; 3. Demonstrate the linkages between agriculture, food, nutrition, and public health; We believe that global and local are inextricably interconnected. Develop educational, institutional, and other population-based intervention strategies to improve food security and reduce non- communicable diseases (hypertension, diabetes, obesity, cancer); 5. Promote policies to ensure the safe production, distribution, and consumption of food, develop effective strategies for advocating for improved nutrition and physical activity among different population groups, and 7.
