Sc. (Honors) Program in PHN. All courses in this program are taught within a research- driven, student-centered framework. Students have access to excellent facilities and laboratories (including several other major laboratories operated under different Departments of School of Science in PAU. This is a world class program consisting of 155 credits in 12 semesters focusing many areas of basic and applied sciences, public health, food, and nutrition- related courses Welcome and thank you for visiting our web site! We have a grand mission to improve public health, promote individual well- being and address diversified nutritional issues in Bangladesh along with a strong focus for international partnership and collaboration for research. Our Department fosters a collegial, supportive environment in which students work closely with faculty, staff, and other students. Our faculty members are drawn from a pool of talented scholars in Bangladesh; they are accessible and committed to students, service, research, and teaching. The program is aimed at providing the students a solid background for their future careers, related to teaching, service, and researches in diversified areas of PHN. A B.Sc. (Honors) degree in PHN can lead the students to post- graduate studies and research careers in universities, research institutes, hospitals, industries, and government laboratories. Major focus of the Department of PHN is to prepare its undergraduate students to: 1. Identify and assess diet-related health problems-of both under- nutrition and over-nutrition among different socio-income groups in Bangladesh; 2. Identify the social, cultural, economic, environmental, and institutional factors that contribute to the risk of under-nutrition and over- nutrition among populations; 3. Demonstrate the linkages between agriculture, food, nutrition, and public health; We believe that global and local are inextricably interconnected. We perform our jobs based on a deep commitment to discovery and application. Our view of public health nutrition is broad, diverse and inclusive in disciplines, populations and perspectives. This results in great opportunities for interdisciplinary inquiry, engaged scholarship, innovation, and impact on our students. Develop educational, institutional, and other population-based intervention strategies to improve food security and reduce non- communicable diseases (hypertension, diabetes, obesity, cancer); 5. Develop policies to reduce barriers to food insecurity and to improve the food and activity choices and nutritional status of different population groups; 6. Promote policies to ensure the safe production, distribution, and consumption of food, develop effective strategies for advocating for improved nutrition and physical activity among different population groups, and 7.
