PROFILE OF 2013 NATIONAL HONOURS AWARDEE MISS GLORIA L. MILLS MEDAL OF HONOUR - EDUCATION Miss Gloria Mills began her teaching career in 1970, a career that spanned four decades. Recognizing that teaching was her life’s calling, she consistently sought opportunities for professional growth and completed initial teaching certification at the St. Kitts Teachers College, and then the University of the West Indies. Over the years she received certifications in Health and Family Life, Parenting Skills, Advanced Health and Family Life, proficiencies in Teaching of Reading, Managing Remedial Education, English at Secondary Level, Health and Family Life Education and Counseling and more. Her professional development enhanced her ability as a general class room teacher, Health and Family Life Instructor and Guidance Counselor. Her efforts over the decades have transformed lives. An innovator, she initiated and introduced numerous school based and national activities and programs including the Health and Family Life Workshops for Primary and Secondary School Teachers, served as Social Life Skills facilitator at the National Youth Skills Training Centre, introduced the “Friends and Fellows” support group to assist orphaned children at the Sandy Point High School, Sandy Point Peer Counselors and Mentorship Training, Sandy Point High School Youth Voices against HIV/AIDS, Facilitated the Health and Family Life programme at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College, Initiated the Sandy Point High School Vernon Connor Boys and Angeline Revan Girls Association and many others. Additionally, Ms Mills is active in her community, where she can be found providing meaningful and thought provoking presentations to various groups all with one goal, building better individuals, families and communities. Miss Mills’ continued dedicated and committed service to county, makes her a deserving recipient of the 2013 National Honours Award - Medal of Honour – Education.
