PSE&G update on service problems and restoration work in Highland - TopicsExpress

PSE&G update on service problems and restoration work in Highland Park and Edison: We understand the hardship that repeated power outages are causing, and we sincerely apologize. Were working right now to restore service to the customers who had their service interrupted this evening. 836 of the customers whose service was interrupted at 5:20pm were restored at 6:55 p.m. Our crews are working to restore power to the remaining 1,622 customers, and estimate restoration will be about 9:00 p.m. Plans are in place to install a padmount transformer this evening to help support the demand while permanent repairs continue. This started on January 11th, when equipment failed at PSE&G’s Edison substation causing power outages that affected 5,100 customers in Edison and Highland Park. While we continue to investigate the cause, it appears that extreme temperature swings – coupled with heavy mist and rain – caused condensation to build up inside high voltage compartments. That resulted in extensive damage to the equipment in the station. We expect that it will take another three weeks to fully repair. Temporary repairs that were put into place after January 11th, failed on Jan. 21, impacting 900 customers from 5:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. , and on Jan. 22, impacting the same 900 customers from 10:40 a.m. until 2 p.m.T hose issues were caused by additional demand on the system- the result of frigid temperatures gripping the state. PSE&G crews will continue to monitor the demand in the station and add additional equipment as needed until permanent repairs are made. We know outages are difficult for our customers. We appreciate their continued patience as we work to fully repair the station.
