PSL.co.za looks back at some of the interesting numbers from the first 56 matches played in September and October. 0 - Only two sides failed to win a single game in the competition. They were the two basement clubs in each section, Moroka Swallows and AmaZulu. The Birds, however, at least managed three draws for three points. Usuthu claimed just a solitary point from their seven games. 2 - The number of hat-tricks scored in the competition. Lethola Mofokeng and Vuyani Ntanga, both of Celtic, were the only two players to score three goals each in one single game. Mofokeng scored all the goals in Siweleles 3-1 win over Polokwane, while Ntanga banged in four goals in an 8-0 demolition of Swallows. 4 - This was the most number of clean sheets kept so far. Celtic held the distinction after blanking out Tuks, Swallows, Ajax and Chiefs. Their goalkeeper most of the time was was Bongani Mpandle. 5 - Mothusi Gopane was the top scorer from the round-robin stage of the competition after netting five times. The Polokwane striker was followed closely by four players on four goals each. Rise and Shine team-mate Sakhile Ngubo is one of them, and along with Celtics Ntanga, still have a chance of overhauling Gopane. Jackson Maphathe of Free State Stars and the impressive Khanyiso Mayo of Chippa United were the other two. 8 - There were eight goals scored in a single game on three occasions. The first instance was when Celtic thumped Swallows 8-0, with Chippa United putting six past Free State Stars in a 6-2 win and Polokwane thumping Maritzburg United by the same 6-2 margin. 16 - The total number of goals scored by Polokwane, which was the highest by any team. Celtic and Chippa were the next best with 15 each. 17 - There have been two hat-tricks in the competition to date but 17 braces in total. Two went to rising star Mayo for Chippa, who also had braces from Siyabulela Shai and Siyabonga Dabula. Four Polokwane players bagged doubles - Bongani Nxumalo, competition top-scorer Gopane, Siyanda Ngubo and Ayanda Lubelo. There were two players each from Platinum Stars and Mpumalanga Black Aces, Rhulani Manzini, Kobamelo Kodisang, James Bell and Darren Lurie respectively. The others were Tebogo Reed (Mamelodi Sundowns), Sakhile Ngubo (Orlando Pirates), Ryan Chapman (SuperSport United), Noah Sadaoui (Ajax Cape Town) and Adam Abdul-Basit (Free State Stars). 17 - This was also the number that represented Swallows woeful defensive record. The Birds also only scored three goals, the worst by any team.
