PSM is a School Management Information System that brings the advantages of electronic data storage and processing to Ugandan schools. Through the automation of hitherto manual tasks and routines as well as providing instant access to all relevant school information to system users within a secure access framework, PSM empowers school administrators to take full control of their institutions with ease. The suite consists of the core software package used by school staff, a web platform for dissemination of information to parents and other stakeholders as well as various utilities that ensure smooth running of the entire system. There is a universal core package for Primary and Secondary Schools whereas the Tertiary Institutions package is customized on request. The core package is a multi-user Windows application with a Linux based backend (the Linux backend is crucial for sustained system reliability) and it comprises six modules, each with specific functionality: Students, Staff, Academics, Finance, Library and Facilities. All the modules are easily configured via an Administrative interface and the software itself is intuitive and easy to use. In addition, PSM also features integrated messaging via E-Mail and SMS. This means, for example, that the school can send student reports via E-Mail or send school fees balance payment reminders to parents at a click of a button from within PSM.
