PTE-HOPE, INC. HOSTED 2014 SAN DIEGO CANDIDATES MEET AND GREET By Thelma P. Calabio, Filipino American Press Club of California PTE-HOPE, Inc., a multi-cultural and diversity organization that promotes understanding among different groups hosted several candidates for a “Meet and Greet” event on January 24, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the San Diego Public Library located in Bonita, California. Notable candidates in attendance included Ken Gosselin for Superior Court Judge, two San Diego District Attorney candidates – Robert S. Brewer, Jr. and Terri Wyatt, candidate for School Superintendent Lydia Ann Guitierez, San Digeo District 6 candidate Chris Cate, two 52ndCongressional District candidates – Kirk Jorgensen and Fred Simon and two 53rdCongressional District candidates -Larry Wilske and Joel Marchese. Also in attendance is the incumbent CA Senator, Hon. Dr. Leland Yee. Being the only incumbent elected official in the office, his presence was the highlight of the event. He spoke about his bid for the California State Secretary office and how CA residents should take an active part in the democratic process because it is the foundation of nation. And to encourage involvement in the process for which our forefathers died for, he authored a bill to make electronic voter registration possible. With the enactment of the online registration, CA voters no longer have to go anywhere to register. All they have to do is access online registration through their computers. Gwen Coronado, TV host of VNTV Vietnamese Station introduced the Hon. Senator and said, He is the most humble and dedicated public servant she ever came across. It was truly a very informative and significant event. Seeing different candidates with different views all together in one venue and talking about their platforms brings to light the core of democracy. It is now up to the voters to complete the process by exercising their right to vote. Congratulations to PTE-HOPE, Inc. and the people behind the event led by its President Mateo Camarillo, VP Maxine Sherard, PhD., and Director Marissa Acierto.
