Hopefully the contactors will arrive,” said the Finance Minister. Muhith also said arrangements were being made to ensure a smooth transfer of the project to the next government so that work could proceed unhindered. “We are maintaining transparency in the handling of the process, so that the work can continue no matter what government comes next,” he said. The Finance Minister said the government would open a $1.2 billion account to gain contractors’ confidence. It would help dispel apprehensions about payment uncertainties. The government opted to build the 6.15-kilometre railroad bridge with its own funds after the World Bank withdrew amid talk of corruption within the project bureaucracy.
