$$$ Paid Research Opportunity $$$ If you are interested, the UT Center for Advanced Medical Simulation is recruiting patient actors. Read more below! The University of Tennessee Center for Advanced Medical Simulation is currently recruiting patient actors to participate in educational and/or assessment activities for the UT College of Medicine, UT Intern and Residency programs and regional colleges and universities who contract with the simulation center to obtain education services. Patient actors, or standardized patients as they are most often referred to, are persons who have been carefully trained to take on the characteristics of a real patient in order to provide an opportunity for a healthcare professional to learn and/or be evaluated on skills firsthand. In doing so, the learner experiences and is able to practice clinical medicine without jeopardizing the health or well-being of real, sick patients. Standardized patients are NOT research subjects. Standardized patients are not asked to take any medications, given any shots, or asked to change their lifestyles. Rather, they are trained to portray a patient case in order to observe and evaluate the medical student or healthcare professional. Those who are interested may contact Melinda Klar, Administrative Director at the UT Center for Advanced Medical Simulation, at [email protected] to request an application. Participants who are selected as standardized patients will receive $15 per hour and must complete a 4-6 hour training class - the participant will receive pay for hours dedicated to training. Once the training class is complete, standardized patients will be contacted in advance for participation in simulations. There is no experience necessary. Please distribute this information to your student body via email, Facebook group(s), or student newsletter. Additionally, let me know if there are any bulletin boards where I could place this information within your college/department. Do not hesitate to contact me for more information. Thanks in advance.
