Painting is a lot like life. Both are expensive. When I first started this new hobby, I had no idea how much it was going to cost. I left Michaels the first time broke---happy and excited, but broke. Heck, it took me a month to stop painting on paper I gleaned from Tom’s computer and use the only canvas I bought. Gosh, the thing cost $7.98; I wasn’t about to ruin it! I use the cheapest paint I can find but still it costs about $4.00 for a tube. Not daring to waste any, I keep leftovers in tiny little plastic containers. Now I have a rainbow of paint dabs in a drawer just waiting for the right time to become useful again. Not just money, but much time has to be spent painting as well. I try to wait until Mama is in bed before I start a new painting, but sometimes it’s 3:00 or 4:00 before I get to sleep. Then I add or edit off and on for a day or two until I’m tired of it or satisfied. My time has to be budgeted as well as my money. But you know, I love painting and I think it is worth every dime and minute spent! Life is expensive as well. Everything I buy cost more every time I make a purchase. Today I actually passed up a candy bar at Dollar General because it cost 80 whole cents---for one little candy bar! Not to mention the price of the diabetic medication I have to get because of eating too many candy bars when they were cheaper! I have to stretch my little retirement check tighter than my girdle to make ends meet! But you know, life’s worth every dime and moment spent! Have you noticed the cost of funerals lately?? Lord, help me to spend my money wisely and not fret over every dime. Amen.
