Palanivel: India, Malaysia keen on enhancing bilateral ties NEW DELHI: India and Malaysia have shared long historic bilateral relationship and are keen to take it to the next level, Natural Resources and Environment Minister, said Datuk Seri G.Palanivel. Palanivel made a courtesy call on Indias Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday. We need to inject new dynamism and dimension to the relationship. Malaysia will assume chairmanship of Asean in 2015 and we are looking to work closely with India in the platform as well, he told Bernama after the 30-minute meeting with Modi here. Also present was Malaysian High Commissioner to India Datuk Naimun Ashakli Mohammad. He said India and Malaysia had the potential to further expand bilateral trade between the two countries, which should be pursued with greater interest. Bilateral trade between India and Malaysia stood at US$13.4bil (RM42.78bil) in 2013. The target is to touch US$20bil (RM63.85bil) by 2015. Among others, Palanivel said he conveyed that Malaysia was keen to secure more high impact infrastructure projects in India as well as attract more Indian companies to invest in Malaysia. I also thank him for Indias participation in the search and rescue mission in the Indian Ocean for Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, he said. Palanivel said he also extended an invitation from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razaks for Modi to visit Malaysia. - Bernama
