Pamir Highway part one, from Dushanbe To some random camping - TopicsExpress

Pamir Highway part one, from Dushanbe To some random camping location. The drive itself was fairly uneventful, but incredibly bumpy. Fun! We didnt get as far as we wanted to because engine oil seems to not exist for petrol engines in Tajikistan, and we didnt manage to leave Dushanbe until 11am. At least weve got oil to replace all the oil our engine is burning - but idea why it does! Anyone got any ideas why our Kangoo burns through oil so fast? Current estimate is a liter or two per week. We cant spot any leaks. We camped near the biggest peak we got to because it was the first flat area we found in the dark, and ended up freezing our faces off during the night. Dumb. Still a pretty drive, and we ran into three separate pedal bikers, a Swiss, two French and a British couple. The latter has taken 3.5 months to reach Dushanbe on a bike, and were planning two months in China before going to Australia and back home a year after starting. We cant imagine cycling the Pamir, but we bet its most definitely worth it!
