Panlelist bio - Huguette Diakabana Huguette Diakabana is a Community and Economic Developer who currently works and resides in the Province of Katanga, DRC. She holds a BSBA in International Business and International Economics from Suffolk University, in Boston, MA. Her work currently entails establishing sustainable livelihood projects, microfinance projects, and establishing micro and medium enterprises with residents in 23 villages. Huguette does a number of charitable works in Kinshasa and other major cities in Africa. She works with orphanages, hospitals, and various entities to assist them with achieving their goals. She also spends some of her time teaching homeless boys art and English. Huguette has also been making elementary and secondary education more accessible in the DRC. To perpetuate this goal, she started a small organization called Teya which will provide funding to students at an early age to help pursue their education. An avid supporter of afterschool programs, Huguette co-founded Future Leader’s Academy in 2012 which offered children from Kinshasa opportunities to explore their leadership potential. Prior to moving to Katanga, Huguette lived in Kinshasa and managed a scholarship program in 5 African countries in which she selected students with leadership and aspirations for university scholarships. She also worked with major universities in Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Republic of Congo, Ghana, and Nigeria to establish forums for students to discuss contribution methods to progress their respective countries. Huguette has also participated in Boston University’s African Presidential Center’s roundtable where she had the opportunity to discuss one-on-one, post-colonial Africa’s complex issues with 9 former presidents.
