Parents as Teachers offers many activities throughout the school year. All activities are free and are primarily tailored for ages birth to 3, but siblings are always welcome to attend. Open Classroom is usually held the first Thursday of every month from 9-11AM. It is a great opportunity for free play and socialization for children and caregivers. This event is not structured and families are free to come and go during that time as their schedule allows. This is also a great time to check out new materials (books, backpacks, toys, etc.). We have a great play space in our facility that allows for little ones to work on all types of skills! This is a favorite event that families always look forward to. Group Connections, or Playgroups are mostly structured, literacy-based events (about 1 to 1.5 hours long) that focus on parent-child interaction through group time on the carpet, sensory experiences, art, snacks, and other developmentally appropriate activities. We usually offer one morning playgroup a month (on a Tuesday at 10AM) and one evening playgroup a month (possibly a Monday or Tuesday at 6:30PM). Musikgarten classes are offered on the second and fourth Thursday of every month at 10AM. This class is about 30-40 minutes long and is generally more low-key than our other events and takes place on the carpet. Families will learn new, more positive versions of old nursery rhymes and songs as well as have an opportunity to use movement and instruments during personal interaction. Musikgarten is great for even the tiniest babies, as it improves overall development. Please remember that the home visit is the heart of our program. We serve all families in the district, prenatally through age three. You do not have to receive home visits to attend activities, and vice versa. Your parent educators are always happy to answer any questions you might have. Thank you for helping to make this program great!
