Parents of those who have children starting school tomorrow, please, and I put a high emphasis on please, talk to your kids about bullying! Explain to them that there are some kids less fortunate who may not be able afford the in clothes, some will not have new shoes and new clothes, some will not have new book bags and lunch bags, some kids may have disabilities, some may be too thin or chubby, some too tall and some too short ... I could go on and on, but I just ask that you please let them know that we are all Gods children no matter what and that we are to love everyone. If they see someone being mistreated, harassed, being called names, etc. tell them to stand up for this kids, not follow the crowd and knock them further down. This time of the year should be exciting for all, but it is not. We need to lift each other up daily. Also parents please remember to take the time to listen to your children!!!!! Put down your phones, get off your iPad/computer, quit watching tv .. Whatever it takes...LISTEN to your children and let them be able to express themselves to you without you telling them thats stupid or ridiculing them in other ways. Give them your undivided attention and a quiet place when they are doing their homework..put all things aside! Several kids right here in Columbia County have taken their lives for bullying and it is a subject that goes unnoticed a lot in our school system so it will be up to you parents to teach your kids Gods way.
