Parents should be able to take time off work to take care of their sick kids without risking their jobs, or their ability to pay the bills. And people who handle your food or take care of your family shouldnt be compelled to come to work sick. Earned sick leave is absolutely essential to tackle these problems. Were the only developed nation to not offer it universally, and its time to change that. While we all want a state law, lets get real: the Senate is controlled by reactionaries who will never pass this in a million years. Rather than sitting on our hands waiting for someone else to do something about the problem, its incumbent on local communities to take the lead. Only then will the Senate see the writing on the wall and do the right thing.
