Parking lot to be built on site of illegal colony THE illegal traders in Jalan PJS8/9 Bandar Sunway have two weeks to move out before their premises are demolished. Petaling Jaya mayor Datin Paduka Alinah Ahmad announced this at the full board meeting. The traders are believed to have set up business there about five years ago and it has turned into a colony of 50 self-built shophouses. The plot of land is located under high-voltage power cables, opposite the main entrance to Mentari Court flats. “It has been decided by the state that we offer the traders another place of business and legalise those who comply with our rules,” she said. This decision was made at the recent Selangor Economic Action Council (MTES) meeting. “The site is filthy as the illegal traders do not maintain cleanliness there,” she said. After demolition, the land belonging to the state will be turned into a parking lot for residents nearby. “There is a lack of parking space in that area and a new parking lot will help,” she said. MBPJ will be issuing the notices of demolition soon. Meanwhile, councillors urged MBPJ to take sterner action against other illegal businesses in the rest of the city.
