Part 1 The COMPRESSOR is the central component of the A/C - TopicsExpress

Part 1 The COMPRESSOR is the central component of the A/C system, the job of the compressor is to pump heat-laden refrigerant through the A/C system. It accomplishes this by reducing the pressure on the low-pressure side of the system, which includes the evaporator, and increases the pressure in the high-pressure side of the system, creating refrigerant flow from the low-pressure side to the high-pressure side. Because of all the moving parts involved it is essential that oil be added to the refrigerant for lubrication. The lubricant helps prevent metal-to-metal contact so all parts ride smoothly on a thin film of oil. The system must contain a certain amount of compressor oil to prevent damage to the compressor. Loss of oil or failure to replace oil that was lost will result in failure; too much oil can cause loss of cooling efficiency or compressor failure. So the next time you have your car A/C unit checked....ask about the oil and find out the quantity and type of oil they are using.....next time we will discuss the different types of oil that are compatible to your system. Caution: There are also fake compressor oils......those who are unbelievably cheap oils....goes with the saying...you get for what you pay for....
