( Part 4 Hayley Davis ) Mae screamed hysterically from the safety of Ari’s embrace, the metal shells beating down against them. Opening one eye she peeped through Ari’s arms to see he was somehow stopping all the bullets! She couldn’t believe it, then it dawned on her, Ari had to be the mutation Nari was talking about! With a growl of rage Ari sent the bullets hurtling back toward the soldiers but something in him stopped him from cutting each man to ribbons and instead the boy dropped the useless shells at their feet. For the first time in a long time he hadn’t felt the mad rush of need to kill all humans. But his quick change of heart wasn’t about to earn him any gold stars, it just gave the army men a second chance to kill him. Again they opened fire, causing Ari to dive on Mae knocking her to the ground, in order to protect her. Unfortunately he had been more rough then he had intended and had knocked the young girl unconscious, this time his rage got the better of him and leaving Mae where she lay, the young male turned, pink-purple eyes narrowed a dangerous sneer curving his pale lips. Giving into his nature, Ari launched an attack toward the twenty odd men and using his telekinesis shot him-self skyward. Four of the men were lucky to die quickly, Ari severing each of their heads without remorse, blood spilling from the gaping wounds, painting the sand siren red, the rustic smell dancing in the rain-filled air. The next two weren’t so lucky. From up above them he struck, punching a hole through their skulls and casually ripped out their spines, just as you would while gutting a fish. The two fell in a heap, blood pooling from them, the soldiers still twitching a little, till their brains finally gave out, and their nervous systems went blank. A gleeful expression fell upon Ari’s pallid face; the boy was actually enjoying himself, ignoring that small voice begging him to stop. By the time he was finished, blood covered the earth, red and congealing. All twenty soldiers had met a horrific end; limbs lay scattered along with bits of bones and several random organs. Shaking him-self, Ari actually saw what he had done, usually his lack of empathy blocked it out, but tonight that had all changed, and the boy had regretted his actions. Backing away slowly, he ran to Mae’s side and lifted the girl gently into his embrace. Without looking back, he headed toward the address written on Mae’s umbrella, Duchess following, yipping noisily beside him. Ari clutched the girl to his chest and sobbed heavily. He was confused, not sure of what these new emotions and feelings were and part of him wanted them to go away and leave him be. * Kai paced back and forth on his front porch worried sick about Mae, she should’ve been back ages ago, along with Duchess, but there was no sign of her or the little dog. Pulling back the sliding door Yvonne stepped out beside him. “Maybe we should go look for her...?” She asked, fearing for Mae. After all there was a supposed psycho killer on the loose. Glancing down at his watch Kai sighed. “I’ll give her five more minutes, and then I’ll—.” But he stopped dead, blue eyes catching something in the distance. It was a tall thin boy carrying......Mae! With a startled gasp, crying out her name, Yvonne and Kai jumped from the step racing toward the two. Ari stopped, waiting as the two humans approached. The tall black-haired male snatched Mae from his grasp, the brown-haired female demanding to know what he had done to her. He stayed silent, feeling his temper building a little, doing his damndest to quench it. Thankfully he found it easier then he thought it would be. Groggily Mae came too in Kai’s grip; he set her on her feet holding her arm as she swayed slightly. “Wh—hat happened?” She stuttered. “That’s what we’d like to know,” voiced Yvonne, tone angry as she placed her hands on her hips and glared irritated at Ari. Ari simply glared back, what else could he do, they weren’t about to trust a boy who brought their friend back unconscious with a bump on her head, that had already bruised black above her right eye. The wind whipped through his long white hair, the rain finally stopping, but before he could respond to Yvonne’s accusative tone, Mae jumped in and said. “We were attacked by soldiers, I think they were after Ari, because he’s—um, well.” She fell silent. “He’s what Mae?” Asked Kai, prompting her to finish what she was saying. Her eyes drifted toward the ground as she cursed herself for opening her big mouth, Kai would be so mad if he realised Ari was a Mutant. “Mae,” Yvonne warned. Her violet eyes lifted, to look at her, sliding in Ari’s direction, and she was surprised to find him nodding, allowing her to say what he truly was. “He’s a Mutation.” “What?” Kai shouted, spinning around fury boiling through him, “You’re the one committing all those murders?” “They deserved what they got,” Ari answered back, his voice a hoarse whisper. “How can you think that?” Yvonne put in. Ari ignored them, he didn’t have to explain him-self to the likes of them, not that they would understand anyway. After a few moments, the three debating the whole time, Mae pleading with Kai to give Ari a chance, after all he had saved her, Yvonne and Kai told Mae to bring Ari inside and get him something to eat while they made a decision. * Sitting at the kitchen table, Ari couldn’t help but stare as Mae and Nari ran back and forth, back and forth preparing a meal just for him. He actually found it rather amusing, as he sat in a pair of Kai’s jeans and t-shirt which were miles to big for him. Realising she had forgotten the butter Nari ran back toward the fridge only to trip, due to her clumsy nature and ended up crashing against the far wall. For the first time in years Ari laughed, finding her misfortune humorous and getting to his feet helped her up, Nari thanked him, not able to hide her rising blush, spreading rapidly over her milk-white cheeks. Kai and Yvonne came in just as the girls were serving dinner and told Ari he could stay despite what he had done, Kai reckoned if he could show compassion toward Mae, there may be some hope of him changing his ways. Ari found he was actually delighted with their decision; he wasn’t used to kindness and found that he liked it. For the first time in his life he had a home. * That night, staying in one of the many rooms of the restaurant turned house, Ari drifted off into a deep slumber, falling to the clutches of his most hurtful memory. ~Ten years previous~ It was the first time Ari managed to escape; he was only nine years old at the time. It had been really sunny, the radiant heat beaming down upon Ari as he wandered through hordes of people of a small town he had never been to before. Several of them stopped, staring at him, muttering horrid things to each other, but Ari San didn’t care. He was free and that was what mattered. Not concentrating Ari bumped into someone, stumbling backward. His purple-pink eyes fell upon a little girl the same age as him, she had flowing blonde hair, creamy coloured skin and vivid green eyes, and her smile was radiant. “Hey there,” she said happily, her accent American, “and what’s your name?” “Ari San,” the boy answered shyly, his cheeks tingeing pink. “I’m Sandy-Rae, my mom and me are visiting from America.” She tilted her head to the side, watching him, not once saying anything about his bizarre appearance. “I’m headin’ to the movies, wanna go?” Ari beamed at her. “I’d love to.” Hand in hand the two small children headed toward the cinema, chatting animatedly to each other as if they had known each other for years. They decided to take a short-cut to get to the movie theatre and turned into an alley only to find them-selves suddenly stopped by two burly figures. Sandy-Rae smiled sweetly up at them, dimples appearing in her cheeks. “Sorry ya’ll, but could you let us by?” To their shock and terror the two men grabbed them both and dragged them off, bringing them to an empty warehouse. Immediately, they tied up Ari, and threw a crying Sandy-Rae to the ground. “Let us go,” she wailed, hot frothy tears gushing from her beautiful green eyes. One of the men bent over laughing at her pitiful sobs and slapped her several times across the face. She cried out in pain, Ari shouting, begging them to stop, not able to escape the chains wrapped around him. Laughing wildly the two men continued to hit and kick poor Sandy-Rae, the torture progressing to an ugly sight. Ari pleaded and begged, but they completely ignored him. Finally bored with her, Sandy-Rae limp and lifeless, but still breathing, they hauled her up by her hair and beat her to death as Ari watched, crying heavily. Throwing her dead form aside the two men approached Ari, the boy screamed at the top of his lungs and exploding, telekinesis bursting forth, feeding on his fear and rage, her cut the paedophiles to ribbons. After, he stayed tied where he was, till his father came. * ~Present Time~ Eating up the tiled floor with quick strides, Kondo pounded down the corridor, his assistant Mae-Lin, trying to keep up with him, a clip-board clasped in her grasp. “I wasn’t aware of these mutations Doctor,” Mae-Lin panted. “Not many are,” responded Kondo as he finally stopped at a large steel door. Pulling out a key-card he slid it through the access grid, an alarm sounded steam billowing outward as the doors slid open. Mae-Lin could see the shadows of two people. “It is time,” Kondo began, “Ari met his match.”
