Passport and a toothbrush; Warning: There is a (new?) law in - TopicsExpress

Passport and a toothbrush; Warning: There is a (new?) law in most Asian countries where they require you to have 6 months remaining on your passport in order to visit them. So there we were, Incheon airport, boarding passes in hand, pockets full of Filipino pesos and a backpack full of nothing but bathing suits. The plan? Boracay. Id found some crazy cheap tickets using sky scanner, and so my gf and I decided to skip schol for a week and just go. Thats when the airline manager ran up to me and said the most gut wrenching thing Id heard in a while... Im sorry, we need to take your ticket back, you cant go to the Philippines. You dont have 6 months left on your passport whattttttttttttttttttttttttttttt I didnt know that was a thing. Well there was no getting around it. Go without me I said to my beautiful girlfriend,a half Finnish half Moroccan 6 fluent language speaking fellow world citizen. To which she replied with the most supportive and adventurous response: No way, lets just go somewhere else That was the moment we got to fulfill most every travelers dream: Show up at the airport with nothing but a toothbrush and a passport. So out comes skyscanner once again. Location: Incheon Destination: Anywhere. Date: Right now. Wed better pick someplace hot, since weve only got bathing suits and flipflops And there it was. Thailand. 330.000w round trip. Yeah, I can always do Thailand. They require 6 months as well, but are known not to check for it. Lets go. Heres our route: ICN - BKK Incheon/Seoul - Bangkok Night out in Khaosan Road BKK - HKT (Phuket) Phuket pier ferry to Koh Phi Phi, a beautiful multi island paradise made up of limestone and beaches. Once there we took a stroll down the beach until we found this beautiful guesthouse for about 25.000w a night where the beach rolled right up to our front door. Everything turned out A-ok. I learned a few things: 1) Check thoroughly on entry/exit requirements for every country. I knew the Philippines didnt require a visa and so I didnt check the fine print on my countrys embassy webpage. (Its every travelers responsibility to do so) 2) Make sure yo shit is legit! I was actually waiting until after this trip to renew my passport... Well, I guess Ill be taking a trip up to Seoul tomorow to get that 10 year passport! 3) MAKE TIME to travel. At least once a year. Remember why were on this planet. Go somewhere beautiful. I found a substitute teacher to cover my classes, and shifted the dates of some other classes. Get creative and make the time, dont wait for it to present itself! It was definitely an adventure that made me a better and wiser person. I had a blast, and now I cant wait for the next leg of my life adventures. In 4 weeks I have a 1way ticket to Barcelona (BCN) and just a whole lot of hypothetical ideas! Hope to run into you someday along the way. Skofe
