Pastor Mikes Daily Devotion Saturday December 27, 2014 Revelation 18:14, The fruit that your soul longed for has gone from you, and all the things which are rich and splendid have gone from you, and you shall find them no more at all. I am writing this devotion on the day after Christmas and contemplating all of the running, shopping, and gift giving. How about you? Did you give what you intended, did you get what you wanted, did you appreciate that which you needed? There will come a time towards the end of the Great Tribulation when mankind will find himself entirely bankrupt. Society has experienced a time of great prosperity and wealth, bringing all the things that seem necessary to foster heaven here on earth, but these efforts always fail. Is this world headed in the direction of Shangri-La or some sort of Utopia? Look at the web page of any world news agency and you will find your answer in the headlines. People prospering at the expense of others, one person exalting himself over another because of the color of his skin or because of a physical ability, and those who make financial success a priority over what is ethical. As long as we seek the monetary over morality, things will continue to decline. We saw in this latest bursting of our economic bubble how fast these things happen. So were you able to find the perfect gift to give? Did you receive just what you wanted? Most importantly, did you appreciate the Savior that you needed? The bible describes us as sojourners or temporary visitors; those who cling to the world and the things of the world will perish with the world. But those who cling to the Lord Jesus Christ will have eternal life, in which can be found riches beyond their imagination and peace that surpasses understanding. Is your priority in that which is passing away, or that which will endure for eternity? 1 Timothy 6:6–8, Now godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.
