Pastor Page for 3/16/14 As I was preparing the sermon for this Sunday, I was reading about Joshua and what the Lord told him that he must do to ensure the victory that God had already arranged for the children of Israel. Walk around the entire city every day for 7 days and then 7 times on the 7th day. Seemed to be a lot of effort that probably didnt make sense to Joshua. I began to think about about other conditions that God put on His children in the Old Testament for victory. Naaman had to dip in the Jordan river 7 times. The number 7 stands for completion but my focus is on the fact that God had made a decision to complete the victory at Jericho and to heal Naaman, but in order to see the victory they had to take an action. Many times we pray for God to perform a miracle in our lives and all of us (me included) then expect to just stand back and watch the salvation of the Lord when in reality we should be listening to see if God has given us instructions of some kind to initiate some kind of action. Most of us are cautionary as in we dont want to get ahead of the Lord and probably most of the time that is the correct stance to take. But not always, as we can see in these two instances. Faith sometimes requires us to step out. If you lived in a two story house and it went dark suddenly, you could feel around to know where the steps are and you would put your foot down confidently that the first step was there, not wondering if it had moved or just vanished. I believe there are times that God would have us move on the victory that He has assured us of. Are you listening for His instruction through prayer or the Word? Make your requests known to Him, then listen. He speaks in a still, soft voice. He is the step that never moves, and you can have confidence that the path He provided for you before is still there; lights or not! We are glad you are here to worship!
