Kumuyi GRASSHOPPER’S MINDSET “And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.” (Numbers 13:33) Caleb and Joshua were no grasshoppers. What about you? Grasshopper mentality is destructive. As the Israelites journeyed to the Promised Land, Moses at God’s command sent twelve spies to Canaan. On return, ten brought an evil report of unbelief, discouraging the people. They perceived themselves as grasshoppers and the inhabitants as giants. Caleb and Joshua, with faith in God declared, “...we are well able to overcome it.” [Numbers 13:30]. The ten spies died on their way, while Caleb and Joshua crossed over to Canaan. Dear youth, God has not created you a grasshopper. Reject the grasshopper spirit. It is the spirit of unbelief, defeat and death. Like the ten spies, unbelief will deny you of God- promised success, victory and prosperity. See yourself in the light of God’s, word and promises. God says, you can do all things, you are the head and not the tail, above only and not beneath. Arise from your slumbering academic and career life. You are well able. Believe God, live for Him, be diligent in your work and you will leave the grasshoppers behind. Challenge: Reject grasshopper spirit and mentality in your life. Prayer: Lord, please turn my unbelief to fervent faith in God.
