Pastors Moment: God Is NOT dead - make sure you watch the movie when you can. Todays Pastor moment will be longer than usual. A lecturer in Law School passes a piece of paper round a class of freshers and asks them to write God is Dead and sign -that action assures them of a pass. Josh, a student declines saying I cannot do that. The lecturer offers an alternative that Josh presents a thesis to prove. God is NOT dead. Josh then asks who will decide whether he has passed or not? The Lecturer says he will. Josh says, with all due respect I do not think you can be objective The Lecturer then asks, who do you suggest should Josh offers, them, my classmates, after all you have convinced them mine is simply to unconvinced them, The lecturer smiles and says, You get 20 minutes for the next three classes to present your counter thoughts - if you fail you lose 30% of your final grade That is the beginning of a great argument, first encounter, Josh goes to church and he is alone when the Pastor walks in, on noticing him he asks are you waiting for someone? Josh answers, you may say so, am waiting for he Son of Man the Priest then answers, that is why he sent me -That is First crucial answer, God uses people and things around and near you. The encounter with the priest does not offer a powerful basis for his legal class a bible verse saying he who denies God before Men... Can surely not be an answer worth presenting to counter his legal professor. In his first presentation Josh begins by saying the Atheists are right no one can prove that God exists, but it is also right hat no one an disapprove God lives, so the best way to settle the debate is to look at the evidence as it exists Argues Josh, If it is true the Big Bang brought us the Earth from nothing, then is it not true that Genesis 1:3 brought us the universe from nothing? Immediately after the lecturer threatens Josh that he will not get a Law degree and Joshs girlfriend leaves him. At home the Professor walks to a wife who is a Christian, to whom he admits, you make me lose my intellectual demeanor when around you The wife, has an aged mother suffering from dementia and a brother who has just dumped a girlfriend on the grounds that she has been diagnosed with cancer. In the Second Presentation, Josh starts by saying Nonsense remains nonsense even when spoken by scientists...yes Stephen Hawkins argued the universe created itself, but that is just like saying a certain food is the best food and claim that is a fact The professor interjects, Are you a freshman saying Hawkins was wrong? To which Josh replies, No, I am saying another Professor of Mathematics, Lenin, said there were three errors of logic and besides, Hawkins on page 5, says, Philosophy is dead It then turns out, the professor grew up as a Christian, but lost the mother to Cancer when he was 12 years old, she died believing that someone up there would save her, when that someone was busy strangling her to death The Professors wife then divorces him after much thought on their relationship where God is never a topic of discussion. In the third presentation, Josh argues that God allows evil to happen because of free will. It all comes down to free will. The difference between you and me, is that you want everyone to believe what you believe, you deny them free will, Josh says Then the most dramatic thing happens, Josh asks Professor why do you hate God? The professor answers, because He took everything from me Josh then calmly asks, How can you hate someone who does not exist? Of course the Jury of classmates all rule, God is NOT dead. What happens o the professor later? Does Josh get his degree? What about all other sub-plots? Let me not spoil the appetite. For the other details watch the movie, if for nothing else watch to cheer the fact that one of the characters is Kenyan Benjamin Alfred Onyango, he acts as Reverend Jude. God Bless You and Keep You
