Patient #7825: Great Horned Owl This owl was brought into us in early November grounded and unable to fly. During an exam, fishing line and a lure was discovered wrapped around his wing. Once removed, the wing looked surprisingly good, albeit with some scabbing and swelling. A follow up x-ray revealed a second lure and hook embedded in the birds flank! Finally debris-free, this owl was given antibiotics and pain-meds while he healed. Flying well after a couple weeks of recovery time in our Raptor Flight Facility, this bird was released approved! He went back to his home territory after about a month. Being a top predator does not make you immune to these unnatural dangers. This is another great reminder to keep it clean when you are out enjoying nature. We are very happy that this great horned owl was found, rescued, and successfully returned to the wild!
