Paul Gross sealed the Millers passage into the Quarter Finals of the London Senior Cup at Badgers on Wednesday evening as his penalty kick secured a 5-4 on penalties win over Metropolitan Police. In a frantic start to the match, Ricardo Joseph curled a shot just wide before Alex Chambers saw his shot blocked at the other end. But despite both sides creating chances, Millers keeper Stevie Sutton had to make the only save of the half just before the break, turning Bradley Hudson-Odois shot around the post. The second half continued in the same fashion with both sides creating chances but being unable to convert until the 65th minute when Ryan James bundled the ball in to the Millers goal at the far post following Charlie Collins deep corner kick. Moments later and Alwayne Jones appeared to be tripped inside the Police penalty area but the referee saw nothing wrong and allowed play to continue. As the Millers pressed forward looking for an equaliser, Stuart Searle pushed Ben Healys drive to safety before Healy connected with Chambers cross to the far post but couldnt divert the ball into the goal. With just 8 minutes remaining, the Millers got their rewards when Chambers this time crossed for Jones who saw his volley blocked by a defender and with the Police defence looking for the loose ball, Jones stuck out a foot to knock the ball home from 5 yards out. Both sides still had enough time to grab a winning goal but Jones again saw his goal bound effort blocked by Joseph before Jack Knight headed a good chance wide with the goal at his mercy. So the match ended 1-1 and with no extra time in the London Senior Cup until the semi-finals, the match would be decided by the taking of penalty kicks! The Police decided to take the first kick, Ryan James blasting his spot kick into the goal, beyond the reach of Suttons out-stretched hand. And so they followed, Jimmy Rogers, Charlie Collins, Adam Gross, Dean Bown, Michael McKenna, Nikki Ahamed and Alwayne Jones all successfully converting their spot kicks with neither keeper able to keep the ball out of the net. With the scores now level at 4-4, Bradley Hudson-Odoi stepped up and from a short run up, lofted his kick over the top of the Millers goal to give player/manager Paul Gross the opportunity to seal the win. On seeing his shot nestle into the top corner, Gross turned to his players, raised his arms above his head and shouted, Thats how you take a penalty! The Millers will now face another Ryman Premier League side in Wingate & Finchley at Badgers on a date to be confirmed as the Millers love affair with the London Senior Cup continues! Come On You Millers!
