Peace is the prescription. Life feels busy most of the time. Would it surprise you to hear that telling others how busy you are is associated with stress and overload? Just talking about busy-ness increases physical overwhelm for most people. Most of my clients mention that they would enjoy more peace of mind, but dont believe they can do anything to change the constant stream of thoughts and concerns. Zen mind is the ability to hold complete stillness in the thoughts, even if its briefly. Like any skill, the ability to have no thought is something that is built up over time. You begin with a micro second, really just noticing the pause that happens in between each thought. Do it right now. Close your eyes and repeat Im waiting for my next thought. Then, as you wait, notice this gap in the steam. It may take only a second or two at most. Then let the incoming thought go past, without analyzing or engaging with it. Then repeat again Im waiting for my next thought now. Continue to repeat, paying attention to only the stillness gap between the thoughts. A few minutes is enough. Repeat three times today!
