Peanut Butter & PopTarts for Amarillo kids! AUUF has long supported SnackPak4Kids in Hereford. Food item donations from our members and friends will now go to the program here in Amarillo. Because our Fellowship no longer has a member who works in Hereford, it has become difficult regularly to transport the food weve been bringing to that community. Yvonne Moore, Social Action Chair, contacted the Hereford program to see if it would create a shortage there if we donated food to a different SnackPak4Kids program - and they responded that it would not create any difficulty. Why peanut butter & Pop-Tarts? Pop-Tarts are a sweet treat the program can justify putting in the bag - as long as they do not use donors precious cash resources to purchase them. They are obtained exclusively through food drives such as ours. As for peanut butter, it is very expensive but remains a vital part of SnackPak bags during longer weekends and holidays. Calorie-for-calorie, peanut butter is a nutritionally dense food filled with protein, fiber, and heart-healthy monounsaturated fat. Plus, kids love it. So - instead of the other high-protein items we have been bringing, please switch to peanut butter & PopTarts! Until everyone adapts to the change, all other items will be donated to the High Plains Food Bank.
