Pedestrian Safety Enforcement Operation In response to an increase in traffic collisions involving children on bicycles and as pedestrians, the San Jacinto Police Departments Traffic Division conducted a Pedestrian Safety Enforcement Operation on Wednesday, November 13, 2013. This operation targeted several behaviors endangering children in the community including drivers failing to yield to pedestrians, juveniles failing to wear helmets while riding bicycles, skateboards and scooters, and pedestrians crossing the street unsafely. The goal of the operation was to reduce the number of traffic collisions involving children and to reduce the severity of injuries in any future collisions. Young children who were cited will be required to attend bicycle/pedestrian safety training in lieu of being sent to court. Forty-four citations were issued, seven vehicles were towed due to unlicensed drivers, and one person was arrested for an outstanding arrest warrant. The San Jacinto Police Department is committed to public safety and will conduct similar operations in the future.
