Penang has set up a taskforce to seek answers on deaths in police custody. State executive councillors Dr Afif Bahardin and Jagdeep Singh Deo will be in the three-men committee with Penang Deputy Chief Minister II Prof P. Ramasamy chairing it. I have earlier called the state government to intervene on this matter. Although PDRM does not fall under the purview of the state government, the Chief Minister is the chairman of the state security council who have a considerable influence over the police. Kudos to Penang for setting up this taskforce! We need more weight to come in on this serious issue.
