PennDOT has begun shoulder reconstruction and prep work in advance of repairs to the I-83 bridge over Route 30 at Exit 21 in Manchester Township. Work is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year. Over the next few weeks, you may encounter lane restrictions between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. near Exit 21 as crews reconstruct the shoulders in preparation for traffic shifts under staged construction phases. I-83 traffic will eventually be shifted in order to maintain four lanes of traffic while bridge repairs are conducted. PennDOT expects to close the southbound I-83 ramp to Route 30 east for about five months, beginning July 8. This is due to the close proximity of this ramp to the I-83 bridge backwall. It will be necessary to occasionally detour I-83 traffic between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. in order to jack up the bridge and replace the concrete bearings.
