#PennStateExtension Much of Pennsylvania ended August on the dry side and the drier than normal weather pattern is expected to persist well into September. In fact, the next opportunity for showers in about half of the state is not until Sunday (Sept 8). Temperatures will be more comfortable with readings below seasonal readings at night and rising to near or above seasonal levels by day between now and Sunday, A few light showers or sprinkles are possible in the northern tier as a reinforcement of cooler air arrives early Thursday. A quick warm-up on the weekend may introduce enough moisture to trigger patchy thundershowers late Sunday. The jet stream is expected to retreat next week allowing for a slow warming trend that could produce a spell of warm, humid weather and perhaps some rain later in the week. Early indications point to a warmer than average autumn in Pennsylvania with noticeably wetter weather as autumn progresses. Paul Knight, Pennsylvania State Climatologist
