People are asking me why I have chosen to live totally off the grid well in all the years I worked raised two great children who are now making their way in the world I happened to sit down writing one night and came to a few conclusions. If I payed off everything I owed cashed in what I had stored away I could afford to buy this place whereas having owned a house before I know what it is like not to pay rent but alas the mortgage was going into someone elses pocket so grind away get nowhere for 20 yrs of another mortgage or buy up here at Lighting Ridge where many years ago I has lived before. So doing the sums I was able to buy outright a three bedroom home with four car carport attached to a twin level workshop with a few other sheds dotted about the property. I have 40000 Litres of rainwater storage full solar producing enough power to run 240V. I peaceful laid back community and all the time in the world to write and restore old furniture add to my old book collection and have branched out (excuse the pun) into creating furniture and feature pieces out of gum tree wood. The final realisation came when I considered what is society selling that I need to live a comfortable life well it boiled down to not much. Have always been slightly eccentric so I took the plunge and moved out here totaly off the power and society grids. Yes we have shops here lol but I buy most of the things I need of the net. Comfortable shit yep bit cold tonight but the open fire compensates . No curb no guttering no $4000 odd dollars a year in rates on the subject of rates I just got my rate notice #320 now thats nice :) The price difference in real estate well conservataby the half acre house and surrounds would market at around $500,000 in the suburbs maybe more so all in all not a bad investment. The fact that this property is sitting on top of red on black opal is the icing on the cake people :)
