People dont understand mental illness. They dont understand that people can be ill in the brain without it carrying the stigma of that person somehow having a personality defect that means they are a serial killer or something. All these years living with mental illness, and it is still amazing to me how ignorant otherwise intelligent people can be about mental illness. If someone had had cancer they would receive sympathy, but because they have a mental illness they are shunned. Oh well. That said, Im grateful for the friends I have who understand or try to understand. Im grateful for the love of my family. They didnt understand at first either, but now they do! :)
