People say, “Why did God let that happen?” But do we consider what God DOESN’T let happen? Most of us can point to “close calls” in our life, where, had things have gone the other way, our life would have been much different. Perhaps much worse. I wonder what God is holding back from happening to us. I see God as constantly holding back storms. I look back at my life and see a tremendous amount of mercy. I didn’t get some things I deserved. There are also special times when we say, “Why did God let that happen?” and it is a good thing. We perceive his grace. We get something we didn’t deserve. So perhaps when bad things occur, we should remember God’s grace and mercy. When things go awry, perhaps we should not isolate that event and adjudge God’s existence or compassion based on that single occurrence, but instead have “big picture” thinking. Have the patience to see God out, see His plan through. Because if we believe, we also understand that He doesn’t make mistakes.
