People who are so employed that theyre expected to be informed - TopicsExpress

People who are so employed that theyre expected to be informed about classical music ought to know better than to speak about Vivaldis Guitar Concerto. The usual suspects, RV 93 and 540, are lute concertos, and RV 425 is originally for mandolin. Most of the others transcribed for guitar are violin concertos. Vivaldi never wrote a single guitar concerto. Anything by the Red Priest played on a classical guitar is a transcription. So if someone talks about Vivaldis Guitar Concerto as opposed to Vivaldis Lute/Mandolin/Violin Concerto arranged for guitar, theyre talking through their hats. After all, we dont say Bachs Guitar Suite or Guitar Chaconne, or Bachs Piano Chaconne, or (heaven forbid) Bachs Moog Synthesizer Chaconne. But perhaps some experts are just too clever to read.
