People who behave in an extroverted way - even if they do not - TopicsExpress

People who behave in an extroverted way - even if they do not necessarily feel it - could be more likely to be happy than their introverted peers, according to a new study. Professor Timothy Church and his team at Washington State University examined behaviour and mood in college students in the US, Venezuela, China, the Philippines and Japan. They used a Big Five personality trait survey and found that the respondents from all countries reported more positive emotions when they also felt or acted more extroverted. It was also discovered that students felt more agreeable, emotionally stable and extroverted when they could choose their own behaviour, as opposed to constrained by outside pressures. This is the first research to show that acting confident to generate happiness transcends Western culture and also applies to the very different mindsets of people in Asia and South America. Writing in the Journal of Research in Personality, Professor Church said: Despite all of our cultural differences, the way personality is organised seems to be pretty comparable across cultural groups.
