People who know the bible are sometimes the last to repent Matthew 13:53-57 When Jesus had finished these parables, he moved on from there. Coming to his hometown, he began teaching the people in their synagogue, and they were amazed. “Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?” they asked. “Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Isn’t his mother’s name Mary, and aren’t his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas? Aren’t all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?” And they took offense at him. For some reason people who know what the bible says are sometimes the last people to repent or turn from their sinful ways. How backwards is that? They give every rebuttal there is not to obey as if their excuse is in someway valid. As you grow in Christ, you will develop a backbone that stands you up to tell the truth, even if it means standing alone. You will encounter people who will call you self righteous, a know it all, judging people or looking down on someone. Never apologize for telling the truth, even as I have been reminded by some of you. Steady growth as a disciple and speaking to others to do the same will often cause enemies or distancing of current friends. Why? Because it shines a light on the sins of others and their lack of wanting to change or repent at all. You have been set apart and you will stay that way whether you like it or not. Repentance will separate you from the crowd, even if the crowd is the very people you love the most. Why did the people who grew up with Jesus not listen to HIm and take offense at Him? What makes one person who listens to a message look at themselves and repent, and another listen to the same message and take offense to it?
