Perhaps what we call depression isn’t really a disorder at all - TopicsExpress

Perhaps what we call depression isn’t really a disorder at all but, like physical pain, an alarm of sorts, alerting us that something is undoubtedly wrong; that perhaps it is time to stop, take a time-out, take as long as it takes, and attend to the unaddressed business of filling our souls. Ive been doing a lot of reading about depression lately and its interesting how often it comes back to something Mark said to me a couple years ago: When you feel like crap, assume everything youre doing is wrong and start changing things. Easier said than done, which is of course the rub. Hat tip to Cyndi for sending this book my way. Im particularly interested in what function depression performs for us, because if it exists in such a wide swath of people then its probably here for a reason.
