DESCRIPTION Magnet designated academic medical center with high risk tertiary perinatal center as well as low risk Birth Center now has a progressive Perinatal Nurse Training Program including Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, Antepartum, the mid-wife staffed Birth Center, and the NICU, both intermediate and ICU levels of care. The training is divided into 2 loops, 1) NICU/Postpartum and 2) Labor & Delivery/Antepartum/Postpartum, Birth Center. * Candidates will be hired and complete training in the NICU in both levels of care and the postpartum unit over a period of approximately 2 years. * After completing training in each specialized loop area, candidates will have scheduled rotations through each area. * Nurses applying should be committed to professional development and the perinatal nursing model. * Those successful will have excellent critical thinking and time management skills and be self-motivated, patient advocates, and effective communicators. * Candidates will be eligible to apply to cross-train in the second loop after completion of training in the first loop. * Extended commitment to the organization requested in order to assure program completion. * Directs and acts as a resource to other members of the nursing team as assigned. * Promotes compliance and support of policies. * Achieves trust in professional collegial relationships. * Demonstrated nursing clinical skills to identify and implement nursing interventions and evaluate results for critically ill patients. * Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. QUALIFICATIONS Valid CA RN license at the time of start (License will be needed by January 2014 New Grad Program start). BLS/CPR Certification or BART card required (Certification will be needed by January 2014 New Grad Program start). NRP Certification required (Certification will be needed by January 2014 New Grad Program start). Must be willing to work various shifts to include days, nights, weekends, holidays and on-call. Must have less than 6 months of experience to apply for this position. PREFERRED BSN Preferred. Internship/Externship/Preceptorship in NICU or women’s services preferred. Maternal Newborn Nursing Course from the San Diego Regional Perinatal Program preferred. Fetal Monitoring Course completion preferred.
