Perspective... Im not saying there arent things that cant be done better in our country or our communities and yes within our police organizations, but the bashing of our police and the one sided reporting in the media of extreme cases that fit the loudest narrative has to stop. Yes, we need good conversation about the topic of race in America, but maybe we we can show a little more respect as citizens in this country to the people who give the law the strength to guide and defend communities. From Romans 13 - 3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended. 4 For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. 5 Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience. This goes for those who enforce the law who need to obey it, but for all of us who live by it as well and knowingly or unknowingly break the law. Bad communication mixed with fear and no relationship is a recipe for disaster for our communities. Pull Jesus and Gods Grace (and what it really is) from the conversation, and reconciliation, repentance and forgiveness can be tossed out as well. That is a recipe literally for hell on earth and at times were seeing it. The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life. Prayers for healing in this nation. Prayers for our laws to be effective and God pleasing. Prayers and thanks for our police officers and their families. And prayers for healing everywhere that sin has brought the result of death to relationship, reputation, opportunity, freedom and life. Where repentance is needed, may we be humble enough to offer it honestly. Where forgiveness is needed, may it be given with courage and integrity. Above all may we be reminded that Jesus came to earth to bring peace between God and man through him. That we have relationship with God because by faith we believe in who Jesus is and what he accomplished. In that peace we can in turn be at peace with others. I pray we as communities and as a nation will be reminded that this is really what Christmas is about and that Jesus, knowing him and in relationship with him, is the only true hope for healing the tensions that exist. May God grant us that knowledge of him and the healing that comes because we too have been forgiven and given life!
