Peter A. Ohring, 55, of New Fairfield, husband of Mary (Shostak) Ohring died on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Danbury Hospital after being stricken ill at home. Peter was born in Boston, MA, April 13, 1958, a son of George and Jean (Oxman) Ohring of College Park, MD. He attended Boston schools, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel where he received his degrees in mathematics and physics. He received his doctorate degree from the University of Colorado and his post doctorate degrees and fellowships from Louisiana State University, Bowdoin College and SUNY-Albany. At the time of his death, Peter was a Professor of Mathematics, Computer Science and New Media at SUNY-Purchase. A resident of New Fairfield for the past 19 years coming from Greenwich, CT, Peter was a member of the New Fairfield Board of Education and a member and co-vice president of Congregation B’Nai Israel of Danbury. He enjoyed playing the violin, bicycling, hiking and playing tennis. Most of all, he enjoyed the time spent with his family. In addition to his wife and parents, Peter is survived by a son, Isaac Ohring and a daughter, Rachel Ohring both of New Fairfield; two brothers, Marshall Ohring and his wife, Eva of Hollywood, FL and Richard Ohring of Tel Aviv, Israel and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at 11:30 A.M. in Congregation B’Nai Israel, 193 Clapboard Ridge Rd., Danbury with Rabbi Nelly Altenburger officiating. Burial will follow in Children of Israel Cemetery, Miry Brook Rd., Danbury. The family will observe Shiva on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 4P.M. to 8 P.M. at 16 Mac Bean Drive, New Fairfield with Minyan at 7 P.M., Saturday from 5:30 P.M. to 8P.M. and Sunday from 4P.M. to 8P.M.
