Peter Sculthorpe taught me composition for two years as an undergrad at Sydney University, but was really a force in my education from the day I arrived. By that point was already the presence that had bound that Department together for decades, and his humour, compassion, generosity and deep musicality were formative for me as an artist and as a teacher. I hadnt seen him for a while, but Im terribly saddened by this news and know he will be deeply missed by me and the hundreds of students like me whose lives he enriched over the years.
