Peter Skrzynecki wrote a suite of poems titled Immigrant Chronicle that serves to highlight his shifting sense of connection to people, place and society. The poems examine aspects of identity, relationships and perception that everyone has experienced personally on at least some level, and in some ways they may be considered monotonous. A common concern among critics is that the poems explore many similar themes, and are thus not of any artistic merit when considered in tandem. I am of a contrasting perspective, in that I believe our capacity to interpret the events is based on their incredibly stereotypical and boring depiction. Where they extraordinary depictions of uncommon experiences, they wouldnt be directly relevant to the vast majority of society.
