Peter Whish-Wilson spoke on Radio National Breakfast this morning about the inclusion of Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) in trade agreements. “The UK government recently released a report which explains that ISDS clauses do not add anything to trade deals, Germany has threatened to walk away from the biggest trade deal ever between Europe and the US on the back of the inclusion of these clauses and we’ve seen Indonesia in the last two weeks say that they are now going to scrap all their existing trade deals and treaties that involve these clauses. “We intend to make a stand on this issue and get it properly scrutinised in the public arena. TAKE ACTION: If you have concerns with ISDS provisions in free trade agreements, you can put your position on record and let the Australian parliament know by making a submission to the Inquiry into Peters private members bill, the Trade and Foreign Investment (Protecting the Public Interest) Act 2014. Click here to make a submission: peter-whish-wilson.greensmps.org.au/content/committee/take-action-now-make-submission The purpose of the Bill is to protect Australian laws by banning Investor State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) provisions.
